About Kaelyn
& the Origins of KMMT
Upon returning to her hometown Thunder Bay after completing her BMT at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Kaelyn realized the significant need for holistic therapies in the region, especially for children. Enter, KMMT!
Kaelyn witnessed the powerful connection between communication and music while working as a Speech Language Assistant and during her clinical work/studies in music therapy and speech therapy. Since then, she has had the privilege of working with many children who are Gestalt Language Processors and/or Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) users, and continues to learn through her peers and research how best to incorporate music into her sessions and groups.
In the past year, Kaelyn has completed Neurologic Music Therapy® training, earning herself the title of Neurologic Music Therapist. She has also successfully completed the Natural Communication course, where she received a more in-depth understanding of Gestalt Language Processing.
In her free time, she enjoys all the outdoor activities and local restaurants that Thunder Bay has to offer!
“Often in Western culture, there are significant barriers for individuals in the disability community to access music adequately. My goal with KMMT is to offer a unique therapeutic option for families in Thunder Bay, where we can work on a wide range of goals and ensure everyone has the opportunity to access and participate in music."
— Kaelyn McCallum, BMT, MTA, NMT
Meet the KMMTeam: Beatrix
Meet the KMMTeam: Beatrix
Beatrix began her musical journey with piano lessons at the age of 3. Passionate about music and helping others, her journey led her to study at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she received a Bachelor of Music Therapy (BMT) in 2019 and a Master’s of Arts in Community Music (MA) in 2020. Beatrix also holds her Grade 9 Piano Certification and Grade 7 Voice Certification with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She is a board-certified music therapist (MTA), and a certified Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT) with The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy.
Beatrix’s clinical experience includes working with children and adults with special needs, brain injury rehabilitation patients, and older adults in need of geriatric care. She takes a person-and-culture-centered approach to ensure successful, uplifting musical experiences, and believes strongly in such experiences as driving forces for change and motivation in reaching each client or student’s unique goals.
In 2024, Beatrix moved to Thunder Bay and joined KMMT with the hopes of using her skills to help expand access to music therapy services in northern Ontario. Her offerings include individual therapy, group sessions, and virtual services.
